Author Debra Gavranich will be sharing her journey to writing her mother's memoir and how her story encapsulates the many stories and experiences of immigration. In 1950 at 17 years old Debra's mother, Marija, escapes the post war devastation of her home in Croatia and sets sail to Australia. She has committed to a marriage with a man she doesn't know in a land far from family and friends and where she doesn't speak the language. This is a story of courage and hope for a better life.
