We are committed to providing a broad range of resources, services and activities to children and their families in a safe and welcoming environment.
Along with our regular activities, we run boredom busting programmes during the school holidays, and reading challenges throughout the year (including the summer break).
Check out our What's On calendar for details, or contact your local branch for more info.
Regular Activities for kids and families
Many of our libraries host free weekly Storytime sessions for preschoolers to entertain, and encourage a lifelong love of reading. Many locations also include craft time to keep little hands busy.

Wriggle & Rhyme
Wriggle & Rhyme is a free, music-based active movement programme for children aged 0-2. This programme is delivered in many of our libraries in partnership with Sport Otago. Wriggle & Rhyme is a great chance to experience music and movement with your baby while meeting other parents.
Reading to Dogs
Reading to Dogs aims to help children improve their literacy, self-confidence and self-esteem within a non-judgmental, relaxed and enjoyable environment. The programme also teaches kids about dog safety. This is a free programme delivered at several of our branches by Outreach Therapy Pets, supported by the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) and St John New Zealand. Bookings preferred.
