Chromebooks

Are you studying, looking for a job, working on your resume, looking to connect with family and friends, or are you perhaps keen to do some research? Some of our Libraries now offer the free use of Chromebooks while in the Library!

What are Chromebooks?

A Chromebook is a portable computer running ChromeOS. They're like a simple laptop that operate on the cloud. If you have a Gmail account you can login and edit files using the suite of Google apps. You can even use them to open, edit, download, and convert Microsoft Office files.

Where can I use one?

We currently have Chromebooks at Arrowtown, Frankton, Hāwea, Queenstown, and Wānaka Libraries.

How does the process work?

  • Pop into the Library and ask for a Chromebook at the front desk.
  • The team will ask for something to hold onto while you use the Chromebook (i.e. a passport or drivers license).
  • Take the Chromebook to a comfy spot in the Library and you're good to go!
