Charlie the kids and YA specialist has put together a list of her top picks of recent books that have been adapted to film.

Find them all in our libraries!

Ready Player One
Ernest Cline

Ready Player One is an exciting story set in the future, 2045. There is no room on planet earth anymore so living conditions aren’t great.
Somebody came up with a game called OASIS. To play this game you put on glasses and BAM you’re in a different world, a virtual one.
The story follows one boy as he fights to save the game!

Lots of cool costumes and virtual characters, loads of crazy ideas and brave plans.

Stephen Spielberg, a filmmaker, made this into a movie this year.
I think he did a good job and I guess a lot of people agree with me because the book has been flying of the shelf since the movie was released!

A Wrinkle in Time
Madeline L’Engle

Although this fiction book has recently been screening in our cinemas it was in fact first published in 1962!

A Wrinkle in Time is a fascinating story about a family, mostly following the daughter Meg through the universe! She is looking for her father, a Scientist for NASA and she encounters some amazing things along the way, as well as learning a lot about herself.

The book is the first in the series 'Time Quintet': A Wrinkle in Time, A Wind in the Door, A Swiftly Tilting Planet, Many Waters, An Acceptable Time

So, let’s hope Disney brings out the rest Ay!

Me Before You

Jojo Moyes

This is a heart-breaking, unbelievably beautiful love story!
As one has just about given up on life, the other barges through the doors unannounced and changes that life in ways neither of them thought possible.
As it should be, it was made into a movie in 2016 and bought tears to many people’s eyes, including my own!
This is a great story proving that love is strong and we carry it with us wherever we go.
Louis Sachar

Holes is a great book. It’s funny, gross, interesting and exiting!

A story about a boy named Stanley Yelnats (that’s his first name spelt backwards) who ends up at a camp in the middle of nowhere.
Stanley’s father said that his family was cursed all thanks to "Stanley's no-good-dirty-rotten-pig-stealing-great-great grandfather.”
The story is so great that Disney made it into a movie. Shia LaBeouf (the funny guy from Transformers) plays Stanley Yelnats.

Harry Potter
J. K. Rowling

Harry Potter! A classic indeed. Not too old but definitely great.

This book came out when I was seven years old in primary school, as I grew older and climbed the ladder of the education system, so did Harry!
Although I would have much rather been going to school at Hogwarts with an owl on my shoulder riding an invisible train, that’s for sure.

The author J. K. Rowling, wrote a whole series of Harry potter books, all of these books have been made into movies that are loved almost as much as the books.

Here is the list… Enjoy!

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (2001)
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002)
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004)
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005)
